BTAC – Basic Training for the Armed Citizen

Defensive-Handgun-ClassCommunication, movement, threat recognition and reliable solutions to various realty-based problems are integrated throughout this daylong course. Practical and legal aspects of pre- and post-confrontation management are covered in detail. Students test their mindset and ability using concepts and skills they’ve developed throughout the day. Reality is stressed at all times.

Students attending Basic Training for the Armed Citizen (BTAC) should be familiar with the operation of their handguns at the very least, and have the ability to train for an entire day without excessive fatigue. If you question whether you meet these criteria, please contact us.

Equipment required:

  • photo ID
  • dependable handgun in .38 caliber minimum
  • at least one additional magazine for semi auto (speed-loaders for revolvers)
  • a dominant side holster that covers the trigger guard fully
  • a magazine pouch for the extra magazine
  • eye and hearing protection
  • a hat with a brim
  • a note pad and pen

Round Count: 300 rounds
Course Length: 8 hrs.

Training Evolution #1 (9am-11am)
Introductions, Releases and Logistics, Expectations, Avoidance / Deterrence / De-Escalation Techniques, Safe Operations Lecture (on the range as well as on the street), Mindset Lecture (survival priorities, OODA loop, color codes, other pre-fight considerations) Equipment Selection and ammunition considerations.

LECTURE, DISCUSSION, ROLE PLAY

Training Evolution # 2 (11am-1pm)
Defensive-Handgun-Class-2Student evaluation pre-test, Non Diagnostic Gun Handling, Combat Marksmanship, Ready Positions, 360 degree Safe Operations, The 4 index points and fighting positions of the Combat Draw Stroke.

DEMONSTRATION, INSTRUCTION, DRY FIRE, LIVE FIRE

Lunch: You may bring your lunch (recommended), or there are restaurants near the range.

Training Evolution # 3 (2pm-4pm)
Fighting from the 4 index points of the Combat Draw Stroke, Fighting with the Dominant Hand only, Fighting with the Non-Dominant Hand only. Pre-Fight, In-Fight, and Post Fight Verbalization.

DEMONSTRATION, INSTRUCTION, DRY FIRE, LIVE FIRE, ROLE PLAY

Training Evolution # 4 (4pm-6pm)
Adding Verbalization, Adding Movement, Adding Post Confrontation Management.

Moving, Fighting, and Communicating Simultaneously with Various Time Constraints, and Stressors added. Graduation Exercise.
